A wealth of possibilities

A lot of focus is given to leisure in Denmark, with the result that we have a rich cultural life and a wealth of leisure opportunities. These include music, theatre, cinema, art, museums and exhibitions, presentations, evening classes, sport, and a wide range of associations.

The municipal councils arrange activities in the local area in cooperation with various associations. Further information is available on the municipality websites.

Some activities and events are free, and others carry a fee. Discounts are available for pensioners and students in many cases.

Active leisure pursuits

Many people living in Denmark use some of their leisure time to attend evening classes, develop their creative side, or go to presentations. These activities are available through night schools, folk high schools, associations, etc. Meeting and socialising with other people is an important component of these activities.

People with common interests

Denmark is one of the leading countries in the world in terms of the percentage of its population who are members of an association. People with common interests meet in the various associations. These interests may be professional, political, or cultural.

Associations for new residents

There are a number of associations which may be of particular interest to new residents. These are associations for particular nationality groups, friendship associations, and associations focusing on integration and cultural exchange.
