Danish culture

Danish culture is based on national traditions and values.

Danes are proud of their culture, even though we all have different interpretations of what culture really is.
 
A key concept among ordinary Danes is "hygge". "Hygge" is the feeling you get when you are comfortable and relaxed, either in company or alone.
 

Danish culture is all-embracing and includes everything from being crazy about watching football to enjoying poetry evenings at a local café. Culture can be something you take part in, such as theatre or concerts but we believe that culture is also something that emerges when people get together. There can be a special culture at a place of work where employees talk to each other in a certain way.

There can also be a special culture within a family that stems from long-held traditions. Most importantly, culture is something created by people.

Denmark is a democratic society with freedom, responsibilities and opportunities for everyone, regardless of gender, race, cultural background or beliefs. We all think, speak and write freely. We have the right of community and the right to pursue a religion or philosophy of life. Individual and personal freedom and equality form the basis of Danish society. These are only limited by a duty to respect other people's rights to freedom and equality.
